His Art

Igor Abramov graduated from the Altai Institute of Culture with a degree in "Theater Director." He began painting his first works back in 2005, but recognition in the art world came to the 59-year-old artist only recently. Today, his works are sought after for exhibitions both in Europe and in several Eastern countries. How did a former entrepreneur from Barnaul achieve this? A "Sector Media" correspondent spoke with the Siberian artist.
⠀
– Is a modern artist their own manager?
– Absolutely, that's the case! Today, artists are forced to find their own channels to promote their works. In this sense, art should be viewed as a business. I used to paint "for the drawer," doing something for myself. And only recently, about nine months ago, people around the world started to learn about me and my works.
⠀
– Tell us, what did you do to promote yourself? Did social networks play the main role?
– Yes, the internet helps us a lot, it shortens the distances between cities, makes work easier. Today, it's not necessary to travel to exhibitions to see something. Online exhibitions are gaining popularity. You can also show your works to millions of people without leaving home.
⠀
My journey began with my first post on Facebook. I didn't do anything special to "promote" it, people just started liking, reposting, and commenting on my paintings. In turn, I started responding to these people, and activity appeared. I also use Instagram and TikTok, but these are more like "showcases." Most of the communication with people and agreements about cooperation happen via email or on Facebook. By the way, I never knew how to use social networks, I only started learning recently, and there's still a lot of work ahead.
⠀
And, whereas creative associations used to be common, today it's much worse, everyone is for themselves, but I believe that when representatives of the arts unite, it gives much more strength. In general, the future lies in joint projects.
