About Her Art

Painter and Printmaker Talking about Mara is not simple; she embodies those elements typical of people who love, or seem to love, deliberately complicating their existence. Always in conflict with herself, never satisfied with easy solutions, she manages to achieve complex and fascinating results, not always easy to interpret in order to make them accessible to everyone.

It's the same in life as it is in art. Mara can only be Mara. And it can truly be said that on that Christmas Day in 1976, an artist was born.

Mara Alvisini, in fact, saw the world for the first time on December 25, 1976, and with Mara, as we said, it was not just anyone who came into the world, as respectable as you like, but that particular being, full of curiosity, of interests of all kinds, of contradictions, of continuous searching in herself and in others, of a desire to change the world, perpetually unsatisfied, eager to finish something that will never be finished: the artist was born.

After the usual curiosities and cultural uncertainties typical of adolescence, her interests turned toward the fascinating and immeasurable world of art. From 1995, at a very young age, she attended the courses of the “Schola” of Franco Bellardi, a center for training and research in painting, ceramics, and printmaking techniques, operating in the city of Rieti. Her dedication and commitment, especially in Printmaking, soon led her to direct the art printing sector—etching, aquatint, etc.—in the same “Schola.” Meanwhile, she graduated in Nursing, perhaps thinking of a possible social solution for economic security. Not satisfied with this choice, she wisely decided to graduate in Archaeology and Art History.

Meanwhile, she happily and with excellent results continues her research in the challenging field of painting and, above all, as always, in printmaking experimentation: the production of sensitive and beautiful aquatints, in particular, is truly prodigious in the numerous engraved plates. Occasionally, she participates with her works in various national exhibitions where she stands out, receiving recognition and awards. Among others, we recall the Exhibition of the National Association of Italian Engravers in Vigonza, the Prize of the Municipal Administration at the Formello Printmaking Competition, first prize at the Exhibition on the Lake Reserve in Rieti, Prize at the Saffron Exhibition in Città della Pieve, Exhibition of Italian Artists, “Il segno infinito” in Havana (Cuba) at the Casa de Artistas Creadores, etc.

She lives with her painting and printmaking studio in Scandriglia (Ri). In conclusion, I can proudly and happily say that I was the first to see, many years ago, in Mara, then a shy girl, the artist she would become. I wish Mara, with affection and admiration, the success she deserves for her highly original work and that she always preserves that spontaneity which is so rarely found in a world often filled with appearances, falsehoods, and comfortable compliances. February 2019 Franco Bellardi
