About his Art

Bruce Bowers lives with his wife in Metropolitan Washington DC, USA. He holds a B.F.A. in Painting, an M.F.A. in Sculpture, and a Certificate of Mastery in Photography from the New York City Institute of Photography. He has been involved in the visual arts as an Associate Professor of Art, a Department Chairman at two institutions, a workshop organizer and presenter, and the owner and operator of his studio. His work has been shown in over 100 regional, national, and international exhibits and is in the possession of numerous cultural, educational, corporate, and private collections.

His first photo project involved an in-depth visual look at the Walter Reed Military Hospital Annex in Silver Spring, Maryland, USA. This was done in the days of film and darkroom work before the digital age of cameras was born. The annex was used as a rehabilitation center for war-ravaged soldiers suffering psychological issues as a result of the trauma of their time in the Vietnam War. It was an editorial project to commemorate the site before it was torn down and replaced with houses.

Mr. Bowers works today as a freelance photographer specializing in the beauty of the human figure and in the creation of narrative, composite images from around the world. His subjects are treated with tenderness and respect. His intention is to look for the shared humanity in all of us. His upcoming book, ‘ Poems ’ will be out in hardcover format in February 2023. A post will appear on his website as it comes available.
