About his Art

My name is Tsalamatas Nikolaos of Panagiotis and I am a Civil Engineer. I deal with Structural Studies of new building projects and especially with Structural Studies of special technical projects (Restoration and Reinforcement of Buildings, Restoration of Monuments, Restoration of Preservable Buildings, etc.). In the last years and specifically from the year 2012 onwards, from the beginning and during the financial crisis in Greece, trying to detect the nature of an inner creative impulse of mine, a deep inner need of mine, I began to express myself by working on the charming, attractive and lively wood material. My occupation with Wood Sculpture was and is a means of expressing my emotional and mental world, with the ultimate goal of a higher and deeper form of communication with my environment, with my fellow human beings, with my deepest self. A communication that has no limits and prohibitions, that does not contain thoughts and shoulds, but is a mixture of emotions and mental fluids, of a spiritual inner embrace. My engagement with the art of woodcarving is for me an individual charming journey that leads me to the unknown, beyond the logical and tangible, beyond the known and the obvious, beyond the accepted and the usual. It is a journey of inner harmony, beauty and balance that includes elements of responsibility, authenticity, integrity, unity. My contact with Wood and my preoccupation with its formation is for me the means for the expression of my deepest emotional and mental world, a milestone for the movement, emotion and harmony of my soul, which often achieves to make me happy, beautiful, virtuous. It is that process, through which I manage many times to allow myself to be led to unfathomable secrets, charming, majestic. It's those moments when I want to believe I'm meeting my deepest, Brightest and Magnificent Self. These are the moments when I follow my own inner free world, often utopian, but so beautiful, so nice, so alive. Since the summer of 2013 I have been systematically dealing with the art of wood carving with particular passion and dedication
